Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MIRE (52517gt built 1994) has run aground in the Suez Canal following steering gear failure.
The tanker, on a voyage from Greece to Singapore, is reported to be in the eastern channel of Crocodile Lake and has taken on a starboard list.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
