Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel ARCTIC SKY (7249gt built 1996) has run aground off the coast of Sweden.
The general cargo vessel is carrying a cargo of timber for Egypt. The cargo was loaded in Finland from where the ship sailed on 25th September.
Two of the vessel’s ballast tanks have been damaged as a result of the grounding. Fortunately, no pollution has been reported as yet and the crew is still on board.
As a result of this incident, it is possible that salvage claims will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
