Date: 22.08.09     Type: Engine Failure and Salvage     Voyage: Caribbean/Europe

Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MAERSK NOTTINGHAM (26833gt built 2004) suffered an engine failure last month whilst in the English Channel.

The containership, on a voyage from the Caribbean to European ports, was towed into port by two tugs. A salvage claim has now been made against the owners of the cargo on board. Cargo insurers are being asked to provide salvage security at 15% of the cargo value accordingly.

In addition, the owners of the vessel have declared general average. Cargo insurers are therefore also being asked to provide general average security.
