Reports have been received that Indonesian flag vessels TANTO NIAGA (5283gt built 1974) and MITRA OCEAN (8639gt built 1977) were in collision off Tanjung Perak on 22nd May.
As a result of the accident TANTO NIAGA sank. Her crew were rescued. The extent of damage to the other vessel is not yet clear and an investigation is underway.
TANTO NIAGA was on a voyage from Belawan Port in Medan, North Sumatra. She was planning to come alongside at Berlian Jasa Terminal when the collision took place.
