UPDATE
It has been reported recently that container vessel TSS PEARL has now sunk in the Red Sea.
The vessel’s owners had last week entered into an LOF salvage contract with Smit Salvage BV, following the outbreak of the fire on board. But it seems that the vessel and cargo could not be saved.
We are assisting cargo insurers as may be required.
FIRST REPORT
Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel TSS PEARL (23,633gt, built 2008) suffered a fire on board on 05 October 2022.
It is understood that the fire, which appears to have originated in a cargo hold, subsequently spread and has also affected the accommodation spaces.
The ship’s crew has been rescued by a passing vessel. No injuries have been reported.
TSS PEARL is a containership that trades in the Red Sea between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The vessel is likely to be carrying transhipment cargoes loaded at and destined for other ports as well.
