Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel ZEPHYR I (59,719gt built 2002) came into collision with Liberian flag vessel GSL GRANIA (83,133gt, built 2004) yesterday in the Malacca Strait.
Both vessels, sailing in an easterly direction between Malacca City and Singapore, were seriously damaged as a result of the accident.
ZEPHYR I, a tanker, came into contact with the stern of GSL GRANIA, a containership. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
ZEPHYR I, carrying a cargo of bitumen, is on a voyage from Sri Lanka to China. GSL GRANIA, carrying containerised cargoes, is on a voyage from Savannah to Tanjung Pelepas and other ports Southeast Asia.
