Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel HAFNIA TANZANITE (29,492gt, built 2016) suffered an engine room fire today whilst off Hoek of Holland.
Several lifeboats were sent to the scene. A Coast Guard plane and two helicopters also attended, and three fire fighters were brought on board to assist in fighting the fire.
The lifeboats remained on site for possible evacuation of the crew. It was later reported that the fire was extinguished. It is not yet known whether there are any injuries.
The tanker will be towed from its position to Rotterdam. HAFNIA TANZANITE is on a voyage from China and Malaysia to Netherlands.
