Reports have been received that Bangladesh flag vessel ORION EXPRESS (22,848gt, built 1999) was in collision with Vietnam flag vessel HAIAN CITY (17,280gt, built 2008) off Chittagong yesterday.
At the time of the accident both vessels were underway in the Chittagong anchorage area.
HAIAN CITY, a containership, reportedly lost some containers overboard. The vessel is also understood to settled deep in the water by the stern, indicating possible water ingress.
ORION EXPRESS, a product tanker, proceeded to an outer anchorage but has not yet been permitted to leave the area.
