Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MSC MESSINA (60.862gt, built 1995) suffered an engine room fire yesterday whilst in the Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka.
The containership is understood to be disabled and adrift as a result of the damage suffered.
MSC MESSINA had sailed from Colombo on 23 June 2021 destined for Singapore as next port of call. Prior to this the vessel had sailed from Durban (10 June 2021) and Port Louis (7 May 2021).
