Reports have been received that Japanese flag vessel BYAKKO (11,454gt, built 2020) was in collision with Marshall Islands flag vessel ULSAN PIONEER (2,696gt, built 2016) yesterday whilst the vessels were off the western coast of Japan.
As a result of the incident, BYAKKO, a ro/ro trading between ports in Japan, reportedly sank. Three of the twelve crew on board are said to be missing.
All crew members of ULSAN PIONEER, a chemical tanker that had sailed from Nanjing for Kobe on 24 May 2021, are reported to be safe.
