Date: 28 April 2021   Type: Fire   Voyage: Japan / China / Korea / USA

Reports have been received that US flag vessel PRESIDENT EISENHOWER (82,794gt, built 2005), suffered a fire on board yesterday whilst off the coast of California.

No injuries or pollution have been reported. The fire was in the vessel’s engine room and was extinguished by the crew. However, the vessel is immobilised and adrift.

A commercial tug has been contracted to tow the PRESIDENT EISENHOWER towards Los Angeles where a damage assessment will be undertaken.

PRESIDENT EISENHOWER was originally destined for Oakland. Prior to this the vessel had loaded cargoes in Busan, Shanghai, Qianwan, Naha and Yokohama.

There will be general average expenses incurred, but it not yet clear whether general average will be declared.
