Reports have been received that Chinese flag vessel HUA MAO 369 (24918gt, built 2003), on a voyage from Zhuhai to Shanghai, issued a distress signal on 2 January 2021 whilst off Xiamen.
The general cargo vessel had experienced water ingress in a cargo hold and had developed a list. The Xiamen port authorities were able to receive the ship at the Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal just in time, and a possible grounding due to the increased draft at low tide was avoided.
All containers are to be offloaded before the vessel can be taken to the Xiamen Shipyard for repairs.
