Reports have been received that Italian flag vessel GRANDE EUROPA (51,714gt, built 1998) suffered an engine room fire off the coast of the UK today.
No injuries or pollution have been reported. But the vessel was reportedly not under command and a tug has been sent to provide assistance.
GRANDE EUROPA’s last port of call was Antwerp. The vessel is destined for Southampton.
The same vessel, a vehicle carrier, also suffered a fire on board in May last year, with part of the crew having to be evacuated by helicopter.
