Date: 3rd September 2020    Type: Capsize   Voyage: New Zealand / China

Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel GULF LIVESTOCK 1 (11,947gt, built 2002) is believed to have sunk earlier today in the East China Sea.

The Japanese Coast Guard has reportedly rescued one crew member to date. The vessel has a crew of 40 and was carrying a cargo of 6,000 cattle from New Zealand to China.

The vessel got into difficulty when it encountered typhoon Maysak yesterday evening. According to the rescued crew member, the ship’s engine failed before it capsized. Search and rescues efforts are continuing.
