Reports have been that Singapore flagged vessel MAERSK VILNIUS (20927gt, built 2010) experienced fire in her engine room, 220 nautical miles from Guadeloupe on 26th April 2020.
The containership is drifting in a westerly direction at a speed of around 1.4 knots. The engine may no longer be operable and a tug has been sent to assist.
MAERSK VILNIUS’ last port or call was Freeport, Bahamas, from where she sailed on 22nd April 2020. Prior to this she called at ports in the USA and is destined for South Africa. The vessel is likely to have cargoes on board for other destinations as well.
