Date: 19th January 2020    Type: Fire   Voyage: From Ports in East Africa/ Indian Ocean;

Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel EM OINOUSSES (25,294gt, built 2000), suffered a fire in her engine off the port of Nacala, Mozambique on 19th January 2020.

The containership trades between ports in East Africa and the South Western Indian Ocean, but is likely to be carrying transhipment cargoes to and from other areas as well.

As a result of the incident, the vessel’s owners engaged the services of professional salvors Kotug on the terms of an LOF salvage contract. The vessel has now been towed to Nacala.

Before the cargo can be delivered, it is likely that cargo insurers will be asked to provide salvage guarantees. It is also likely that General Average (GA) will be declared.
