Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel FRONT ALTAIR (62,849gt, built 2016) caught fire today in the Sea of Oman off the coast of Iran.
The crew have been evacuated by a nearby vessel. Reportedly, US Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleet received a distress call early this morning and US Navy vessels in the area are assisting.
The tanker is carrying 75,000 tonnes of naphtha. We understand FRONT ALTAIR’s planned destination is Taiwan.
