Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel MOUNT HOPE (17,027gt, built 2014), whilst en route from Tubarao to Bremen, with a cargo of steel, allided with the pier and a barge at Brake port yesterday.
The pier was heavily damaged and partially destroyed, and bulk carrier sustained hull breaches and water ingress. The barge was also damaged.
Tugs provided assistance to bring the vessel to Niedersachsen Quay in Brake, where the fire brigade assisted to pump out the water.
According to initial investigation by the police and statements from the pilot, the vessel experienced rudder trouble before the incident.
