Cayman Islands flag vessel CHEMROAD JOURNEY (20,108gt, built 2009) is at Singapore following completion of the lengthy salvage operation last month.
The tanker, carrying several parcels of chemicals (including butyraldehyde, ethylene glycol, ethyl hexanol and ethanol amine) from Jubail to Taiwan and PRC, ran aground on 11th June 2017 around 30 miles from the Vietnamese coast, near Phu Quy Island.
The vessel’s hull was breached and she took on a 15 degree list. A complex salvage operation followed, led by Nippon Salvage operating on a Japanese Form Salvage Contract.
Around 8,000mt of the cargo had to be taken off the vessel to assist with refloating. The salvage operation was eventually completed on 2nd July 2017.
Salvage security was requested at 25% of the cargo value. General Average was also declared and guarantees requested.
