*****FIRST REPORT*****

Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel SAFMARINE MERU (50,686gt, built 2006) was in collision with Liberian flag vessel NORTHERN JASPER (94,407gt built 2009) off Jinggangshan on 8th May.

As a result of the accident, a fuel pipe was damaged which then led to a fire. The vessel’s crew was evacuated and taken on board NORTHERN JASPER.

It was also reported that sea water entered the vessel’s engine room.

It is not yet clear to what extent cargo on board either vessel has suffered damage or whether general average will be declared.
