Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel MORDERN EXPRESS (33,831gt, built 2001) has developed a 45 degree list in heavy seas west of the Bay of Biscay.
Four merchant vessels in the area have been asked to assist and aircraft from Spain have also been sent to the scene.
We understand that a helicopter is to lift crew members to one of the standby vessels and transport any casualties ashore.
MODERN EXPRESS is a ro/ro vessel which operates between ports in West Africa and Northern Europe. She had sailed from Owendo on 16th January 2016 destined for Le Havre.
