Reports have been received that Chinese flag vessel JIANG QUAN 6 (19,495gt, built 2013) struck a reef off Zhoushan, China, on Aug 8.
The vessel reportedly hit the reef while it was trying to avoid a trawler. The bulk carrier experienced water ingress due to a large breach in its bow and was reported to be in danger of sinking.
The crew sent a distress signal and local authorities dispatched two tugs to tow the vessel to shallower water.
A salvage team has boarded the vessel and pumped out the flooded areas. Divers were also sent out to check and repair the breach if possible.
