Reports have been received that South Korean flag vessel ASIAN EMPIRE (71,383gt, built 1998) suffered a fire on board on 19th April whilst the vessel was off Japan.
The vessel’s crew of 24 abandoned the vessel and all were picked up by a passing vessel. They will be taken to Japan.
The vessel is drifting and professional salvors Svitzer Salvage have been engaged to rescue the ship and her cargo.
Salvage tug TERASEA OSPREY is due in the area on 23rd April and a second tug SALVANGUARD one or two days later.
ASIAN PARADE is a vehicle carrier that generally trades between ports in Far East and Europe. Her last port of call was Ulsan from where she is reported to have sailed 29th March.
