Reports have been received that Antiguan flag vessel JADE (7,170gt built 2010) rang aground south of the Yangtze River Estuary last week.
The accident took place in high winds and heavy seas. The vessel’s crew were evacuated by rescue vessel Dong Hai Jiu 116.
The owners of the vessel engaged professional salvors Shanghai Salvage. The operation was carried out under a Lloyd’s Open Form salvage contract.
It is likely that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
