Date: 4th September 2011     Type: Grounding    Voyage: Indonesia to China

Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel TUO FU 3 (38,548gt built 1993) ran aground in Meizhou Bay on 4th September 2011.

Quanzhou Maritime Bureau were contacted and launched a salvage operation. Several attempts were made to refloat the vessel and various tugs and equipment sent to the scene.

Booms were placed around. Eventually part of the cargo had to be removed to assist refloating. The casualty was refloated after five days.

The vessel is carrying a cargo of 57,700mt of coal. She was on a voyage from Indonesia to China.

It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
