Date: 8th March 2011     Type: Machinery Damage and General Average     Voyage: Port Moresby to Jakarta and Singapore (Voyage 111105N)

We understand that Cyprus flag vessel AMUR RIVER (9900gt built 2009) suffered controllable pitch propeller problems earlier this month on a voyage from Port Moresby to Jakarta.

Serious stern tube oil leakage was reported and consequently the vessel had to be towed back to Port Moresby for inspection and repairs.

As a result of this incident the Shipowners have declared General Average. ACG Schoutens have been appointed as average adjusters.

Before the cargo owners can take delivery of their cargo they will be required to provide an average bond. The cargo insurers will be require to provide an average guarantee.

Please note that Dolphin Maritime already represents the insurers of part of the cargo on board this vessel. If you have also insured cargo on then we would be pleased to assist you as well.

Average guarantees are being accepted from insurers with a credit rating of A- or above. If you do not have a rating then we may be able to assist with the provision of the guarantee.

We shall in due course be obtaining further detail concerning the cause of the loss. This will enable cargo insurers to decide whether it will be possible to reject the future claim for General Average contributions.

If there appears to be a opportunity of defending a general average claim made by Shipowners, we can also do this for you on a “no cure – no pay” basis.
