Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel ASIA FOREST (10727gt built 1977) suffered an engine failure on her current voyage from China to Papua New Guinea.
The vessel’s owners engaged Chinese salvors to provide assistance to the vessel. A tug was dispatched to travel 3000nm to the casualty and she is now being towed back to Guangzhou.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
