Reports have been received that containership HUI JIN QIAO 08 was in collision with barge RUNZE 001 on Tuesday whilst the vessels were about 2.5km east of Hong Kong.
The sand barge RUNZE 001 capsized as a result of the collision. Seven of the crew were rescued but unfortunately two were reported to have lost their lives. Searches were continuing for the other missing crew.
The cause of the collision remains unclear at this time. It is understood that visibility at the time was moderate although not ideal.
