Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel DONG FANG OCEAN (112,088gt built 1986) has been in collision with Malta flag vessel AALI (32,474gt built 2009) off Chengshan today.
Both bulk carriers are requesting assistance, we understand. DONG FANG OCEAN, with a crew of 26, has suffered ballast tank damage and AALI, with a crew of 23, has lost both anchors.
DONG FANG OCEAN has recently been trading between Brazil and China. She sailed from Xingang on 22nd November. AALI, a relatively new vessel, trades between India and the Far East.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
