Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel CHEM ALYA (11939gt built 2009) has been towed into Netherlands following a steering gear problem.
The tanker, which had last called in US Gulf ports and sailed from Houston on 30th July, was twoed into port by tug ZP Montelana.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
