Reports have been received that US flag vessel LIBERTY EAGLE (28762gt built 2004) has been in collision with Gibralter flag vessel MARIA GREEN (11894gt built 1998) near Suez today.
Reportedly MARIA GREEN made contact with LIBERTY EAGLE three times. LIBERTY EAGLE also contacted an underwater cable when she dropped anchor after the accident. Both vessels have remained at Port Said.
LIBERTY EAGLE had sailed from Houston on 6th May. It is believed she is destined for East Africa. MARINA GREEN’s last port of call was Alexandria and before that Varna from where she sailed on 26th April.
It is possible that general average will be declared as a result of this incident. It is also possible that cargo will have been damaged.
