Reports have been received that Bahamas flag vessel ATLANTIC HERO (38871gt built 2005) ran aground yesterday shortly after leaving the Panama Canal en route to Japan.
The bulk carrier originally sailed from Norfolk on 12th May. Panama Canal tugs as well as Smit tugs are in attendance but the vessel is currently still aground.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
