Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel BRIGHT CENTURY (90267gt built 1997) sank yesterday after colliding with Liberian flag vessel SEA SUCCESS (18093gt built 1998).
The crew of both vessels have been rescued. SEA SUCCESS is still afloat but is taking on water. Arrangements are being made to tow the vessel into port.
The major collision took place off Weihai, China. BRIGHT CENTURY was on a voyage from Dampier from where she sailed on 20th April.
SEA SUCCESS was also sailing to China, her last reported port of call being Singapore from where she sailed on 6th April.
