Reports have been received that Sierra Leone flag vessel SUN EXPRESS (3597gt built 1979) is listing by 30° in the South China Sea. Vessels are proceeding to assist.
The elderly general cargo vessel has been operating recently between Hong Kong and Chaozhou on the Chinese mainland. It is not yet clear whether the vessel can be saved.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
