Company Description
Dolphin Claims Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. is the Singapore branch of Dolphin Maritime & Aviation Services Ltd, established in London in 1960. We provide specialised and independent claims services to cargo underwriters worldwide, covering marine, aviation and inland transport claims.
Our work includes claims settlement, recovery and subrogation, casualty matters such as General Average and Salvage, and hull claims. We help insurers manage their claims exposure by properly investigating losses, applying policy coverage, accurately quantifying losses and maximising recoveries from responsible third parties.
Dolphin is an independent specialist business with an international client base and a strong reputation for high-quality claims services at competitive fee scales. We often work on a no-cure-no-pay basis, aligning our success with the results we achieve for our clients.
Role Description
We are looking for a Marine Claims Executive or Assistant Executive to join our Singapore team. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Singapore, with a mix of office-based and work-from-home arrangements.
The role offers exposure to a genuinely broad range of marine claims work. You will handle, or support the handling of, cargo and hull claims, and will also be involved in casualty matters, including General Average and Salvage. No two files are the same, so the role builds practical experience across different classes of claim, different cargo types, and different liability scenarios. You will also work across global cultures, rather than on one narrow claim type.
Depending on the role taken, responsibilities include:
โข Assessing claim documentation and policy coverage.
โข Reviewing and analysing evidence, and investigating losses.
โข Analysing liability and quantum, and assessing recovery prospects.
โข Preparing clear reports, recommendations and correspondence for insurers and underwriters.
โข Liaising with clients, brokers, surveyors, lawyers, carriers and other stakeholders.
โข Negotiating settlements and supporting recovery efforts.
โข Handling matters arising from General Average and Salvage.
โข Monitoring claim progress, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely follow-up.
The complexity and value of the claims handled will depend on the candidate’s experience and the role taken. Assistant Executives will work under closer supervision on a mix of files and will support colleagues on more complex matters and casualty work. Training will be given. Executives will be expected to handle a broader range of files with greater independence, while still working closely with senior colleagues on the most complex or high-value matters.
The role provides the opportunity to work on a wide variety of international marine claims, including complex and high-value losses, and to develop or further your expertise in marine insurance, claims handling and recovery.
Qualifications & Experience
โข Professional working proficiency in English, written and spoken, is essential, as English is the main working language.
โข Applicants must already have the right to work in Singapore and must not require employer visa sponsorship, either now or in the future.
โข Relevant experience in insurance, shipping, law or a related field is preferred, with practical claims handling experience an advantage. For Assistant Executive level, a demonstrated interest in claims handling, with a willingness to learn, is sufficient.
โข Marine or transport insurance experience is beneficial, particularly experience handling claims on an end-to-end basis.
โข Strong analytical skills, including the ability to review documentation, interpret policy terms, and assess liability and recovery prospects.
โข Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and correspondence and, depending on the role taken, to negotiate settlements.
โข Knowledge of marine insurance principles, cargo claims and casualty matters, including General Average and Salvage, is beneficial, and can be developed through training.
โข Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple claims accurately and efficiently, while maintaining close attention to detail.
โข Good customer service skills, with the ability to provide responsive and professional support to underwriters, assureds and other stakeholders.
โข Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a close-knit team, in a hybrid working environment. The degree of independent working will depend on the role taken.
โข A willingness to assist with occasional urgent after-hours or weekend matters where necessary.
โข Mandarin Chinese would be an advantage, as the role involves correspondence with some insurers, claimants, surveyors and other service providers who communicate in Mandarin, as well as reviewing Chinese-language claims documentation.
โข Formal qualifications in law, insurance, maritime studies or a related discipline would be an advantage.
