Reports have been received that Philippines flag vessel GENERAL ROMULO (4,028gt, built 1997) suffered an explosion on board yesterday whilst the vessel was off Talisay City, Cebu.
One person is reported to have died as a result of the accident. Three other crew members were injured.
The explosion was in the vessel’s engine room, leading to a fire. The crew has been evacuated. Fast patrol boat BRP Malamawi was sent to the scene and the fire eventually extinguished.
