Date: 22nd November 2011     Type: Collision    Voyage: Worldwide and Norway to Germany

Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel MOL EFFICIENCY (53,822gt built 2003) was in collision with Antiguan flag vessel SPLITTNES (11,538gt built 1994) on 22nd November.

The accident took place off Bremerhaven. Some of the crew of SPLITTNES abandoned the vessel when she began to take on water but the heavily damaged ship eventually reached a berth.

There is also severe damage to the stern of the containership MOL EFFICIENCY. Both vessels will need to have their cargo discharged and be removed to dry-dock for repair.

MOL EFFICIENCY was sailing from Felixstowe but will be carrying cargo for various parts of the world. SPLITTNES was on a voyage from Norway to Germany.

It is possible that general average will be declared as a result of this incident. If you have insured cargo on board either vessel and require assistance please contact us as soon as possible.
