Reports have been received that the Liberian flag vessel RENA (37209 gt, 1990 built) has grounded with the Astrolabe Reef, just off New Zealand. The vessel has a 12 degree list and some water ingress in two holds.
There are potential claims for salvage and General Average arising from this incident. Since there is water ingress in two holds, there may also be PA losses.
It seems likely to us based on pictures we have seen that the vessel will need outside assistance to refloat.
