Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel CSCL HAMBURG (39941gt built 2001) ran aground in the Gulf of Aqaba two weeks ago.
The containership, on a voyage to Singapore, was eventually refloated with the assistance of the salvage firm Smit Salvage BV.
Salvage security acceptable to the Council of Lloyd’s and Salvors must now be provided on behalf of the cargo owners/insurers. In addition, it is likely that general average security will also be required.
