Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel HAMBURG TEAM (25056gt built 1982) ran aground off Las Palmas yesterday.
The bulk carrier was approaching the port under pilotage when she developed a machinery problem. The vessel then drifted on to rocks and was later refloated by tugs. The vessel is understood to have suffered severe damage.
As a result of the incident it is possible that a salvage claim will be brought against the owners of the cargo on board. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
