Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel HAFNIA NILE (43,072gt, built 2017) and Sao Tome & Principle flag vessel CERES I (160,229gt, built 2001) are both on fire in position about 55 north east of Pedra Branca.
The region is within the Singapore MRCC area. Vessels in the vicinity were asked to assist and emergency services, including a helicopter are responding.
The cause of the fires is not yet known. All crew have been rescued, although some require medical attention. Salvage assistance is being arranged.
HAFNIA NILE is a product tanker that prior to this incident had sailed from Huelva, Spain on 10 June 2024.
CERES I, a tanker approaching VLCC size, had sailed from Zhoushan, China, on 07 June 2024 before anchoring off Malaysia.
