Reports have been received that Djibouti flag vessel YOUNG YONG (153,911gt, built 2001) ran aground in the Singapore Strait on 26 October 2022.
Reportedly, the crude oil tanker is aground close to gas pipeline, making the potential salvage operation more hazardous.
YOUNG YONG is on a voyage to Mozambique carrying 284,428 tonnes of crude.
The vessel’s last port of call was Yantai from where it sailed on 22 September 2022. Since then, the vessel has been anchored in various locations off Malaysia.
It is possible that claims for general average and/or salvage may arise as a result of this incident.
