Reports have been received that Singapore vessel RIO MADEIRA (73,899gt, built 2009) was left drifting out of control off the Australian coast on 20 October 2022.
The crew was unable to repair the fault and towage assistance was requested. The Australian authorities, who were monitoring the containership as it drifted off the coast of New South Wales, sent tug SVITZER GLENROCK to assist.
We understand that the convoy is now off Port Botany. Prior to this incident the vessel, carrying 3,380 containers, had called in Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas
