Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel ZIM CHARLESTON (91,761gt, built 2011) suffered a fire on board whilst off Colombo on 07 August 2022.
The containership had sailed from Singapore. After sailing from Colombo, ZIM CHARLESTON was forced to turn back.
The fire originated in the vessel’s cargo. We understand around 300 containers may have been damaged. ZIM CHARLESTON remains at Colombo.
ZIM CHARLESTON remains at Colombo where damaged cargoes will be discharged.
The ship owners have instructed Albatross Adjusters Ltd in Cyprus to collect general average security from cargo owners and insurers.
