Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel ALMIRANTE STORNI (19,994gt, built 2012) caught fire yesterday off the island of Vinga, Sweden.
Fire fighters boarded the vessel to assist the crew. Various craft as well as a rescue helicopter were also sent to the scene. Fortunately, no serious injury has been reported to date.
Efforts to fight the fire are being made more difficult by strong winds and it is understood that part of the vessel’s cargo of timber is ablaze.
