Second Casualty Report

The owners of the vessel ZIM KINGSTON have now declared General Average.

Cargo insurers will be expected to provide security before the cargoes on board can be delivered.

Following the loss of several containers overboard (the number lost is currently estimated at 109) a fire broke out on board which led to cargo damage. Other cargo has been damaged by fire extinguishing water.

The vessel’s owners required the assistance of professional salvors Resolve Maritime Group. We understand that Resolve will be paid by vessel interests, with cargo owners’ share of any costs possibly forming part of the General Average claim.

Currently the vessel is anchored at Constance Bank, Victoria. Some further delay in delivery of cargoes should be expected.

Initial Casualty Report
