Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel AMBITION JOURNEY (28,691gt, built 2001), ran aground off Sulangan Island in Guiuan town, Philippines today.
Reportedly the vessel, on a voyage from Homonhon Island to China, experienced engine trouble and drifted into shallow waters.
The vessel’s crew of 21 has been taken off the vessel. AMBITION JOURNEY is carrying a cargo of 49,550 metric tons of nickel ore.
It is possible the claims for salvage and general average will arise as result of this incident. It is not yet clear whether the cargo is damaged.
