Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel AHU C (19,796gt, built 2004), ran aground on the River Congo earlier this week.
The incident happened approximately 100 miles up-river from Pointe Noire. The vessel’s owners have entered into an LOF salvage contract with T&T Salvage LLC.
AHU C has on board a cargo of 20,000 tonnes of bagged rice. The vessel had sailed from
Kakinada on 15 March 2021.
This incident will give rise to claims for salvage and possibly general average against the insurers of the cargo on board.
