Date: 29th April 2019    Type: Sinking   Voyage: Philippines/India;

Reports have been received that general cargo vessel DATTARAM-I (1250gt, built 2005) sank in position lat 15 27 15.6N, long 73 44 17.4E, at 2130 hrs, Apr 29, at the Mormugao outer anchorage, India, while loading a cargo of iron from Danish flagged bulk carrier NORD NEPTUNE (38892 gt, built 2006)

The exact cause for the sinking is unclear at this time. But it is suspected that rough weather at the outer anchorage had caused the vessels to come in contact with each other and the crane on several occasions, causing structural damage.

As the vessel began to sink, the nine crew members were able to jump to safety on to the crane barge MARIA LAURA 1.
