Date: 30 August 2018    Type: Grounding  Voyage: From Singapore/Indonesia/Taiwan/China

*****THIRD REPORT*****

Containership WAN HAI 502 has now been refloated by Salvors.

All cargoes will be carried to ports of destination. Some of the cargo has been transferred to lightering vessels.

Salvors require salvage security (on the ISU 1 form) at 22% of the cargo CIF value before the cargo will be delivered. We are arranging salvage security on behalf of our cargo insurer Principals as part of our claims handling service.

General Average guarantees are also required from cargo insurers. At this time, the General Average claim is expected to be approximately 8% of the cargo value. We are also handling the General Average claim for our cargo insurer Principals.

*****SECOND REPORT*****

Containership WAN HAI 502 remains aground. She is located 65 miles from Pulau Bangka, Indonesia.

Professional Salvors have been engaged on an Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) salvage contract. General Average has been declared.

Some of the vessel’s ballast tanks have been breached. Presently, Salvors are removing containers to assist with planned refloating.

Before the cargoes on board can be delivered, cargo insurers will be expected to provide average guarantees and salvage guarantees. We can arrange these for cargo insurers and deal with the claims arising.

Dolphin Maritime already represents the insurers of part of the cargo on board the vessel and has many years of experience dealing with similar claims.

*****FIRST REPORT*****

Reports have been received that Singaporean flag vessel WAN HAI 502 (42,532gt, built 2005) ran aground on 30th August 2018 whilst on a voyage from Singapore to Jakarta.

It is understood that the containership is hard aground on a reef. It will be necessary for part of the cargo to be taken off to lighten the vessel. Bad weather conditions are reported at present.

WAN HAI 502 trades between ports in Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and China.

It is likely that claims for General Average (and possibly also Salvage) will be made against the owners/insurers of cargo on board this vessel.
